Perfect Timing!

I know that I just posted, and honestly it’s not really like me to be on top of posting like this, but I have something to be excited about concerning the gym, so I thought that warranted sharing!

I mentioned in my first post that I wanted to get more into the weight room at my gym. I didn’t mention (because honestly I thought I was getting a little wordy) that my gym is a smaller gym on my college campus. It just opened a semester ago, and it is a nice facility, it’s just all college kids.

Yeah, ok, I’m obviously a college kid if I’m going there too, I just happen to be 27 and taking my time. A lot of the people going to this gym though are the 20 year old sororiskanks that spend an hour getting ready just to go to the gym and love that the window is usually reflective enough to hide that you’re actually checking yourself out. (Please note that is only a comment on that kind of sorority girl, not all girls in sororities.)

My point is that there aren’t a whole lot of people down in the weight room who seem approachable and willing to help me out in figuring out the machines without me giggling and batting my eyelashes at them, which isn’t really something I’m interested in doing.

I was checking the Well’s website today to see what the hours are like this week (classes and regular hours don’t start until next week) and I spotted something exciting!

The fitness classes for the Spring semester are now up and they’ve got some new ones! Karate – sure it’d be nice, but it’s not my thing. Boot Camp – unless it’s Bob or Jillian, I’m giving up if it gets too hard and you keep pushing, so again, not for me. Self Defense – honestly, if it were my thing I’d probably go for the karate. And then… there it was… Women and Weights!!!!

An 8-week program designed introduce, demonstrate and train women on a variety of forms of exercises designed to enhance overall strength, flexibility and cardiovascular health. Working with a Personal Trainer, participants will learn the strength training basics you need to feel confident in continuing a work out on your own. The target audience is anyone who is looking to feel more confident about using a variety of strength training tools.

Even before reading the description I knew it was exactly what I wanted. To make it better, it’s scheduled for one hour after I get out of my last class of the day the only two days that I’m on campus! I don’t have to make myself any less available for work!

There are also some Zumba classes that I can do on a drop-in basis should I happen to be off on Tuesday or Thursday any random week. Perhaps that will get me to campus, where I can actually do my homework!

While participating in this class will put me on campus from 9AM to 8PM on Mondays and Wednesdays, it’s only for half the semester, and any of you who are coming to BiSC, I will show you just how much it will have benefitted me!

nice! weight training can be really intimidating if it’s not tailored accordingly.

there was one sorority on my campus – i won’t name letters – who insisted that their members dress “properly” for the gym. this included, i kid you not, pearls. how insane. sweat KILLS pearls.

That is awesome! I had a similar size gym at my college, and I WISH they had a program like Women and Weights when I was there. Your post really took me back to those days – I can so remember that feeling of pure uncomfortable ick of trying the weight machines. I’d usually do a few reps on one machine, and give up. So have an awesome time in your class!
