Hello everyone! I wanted to take a brief second to introduce myself. I’m Amanda, a 20something living in the lovely suburbs of Detroit. I was pretty fit in high school and into college, but since graduation, life has gotten in the way, as it all too often does, and it seems I’ve let myself go a little bit (okay, more than a little bit). I’m excited to be part of a community like this and I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone!
For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a runner. I think it is such a wonderful way to stay healthy and fit. And its convenient, you can do it any where, any time, in almost any weather with some sneakers and a bit of motivation. Problem is, I abhor running, or at least I have in the past. This probably stems from my days as a high school lacrosse player when our coach would send us off on 5 mile runs… in the mud…with little to no training or preparation… and she did this as a punishment. Is it any wonder than that I have avoided it ever since? But, in an effort to actually become a healthier person I have decided to replace my usual 30 minutes of cardio on the elliptical with a mix of indoor and outdoor running in addition to my strength training. I’m really excited and I would like to thank Erin for recommending the Couch to 5K Plan, which I will be starting today! Check out her blog, it has been a major inspiration for me to actually do this and stick with it this time!

I’m with you on abhorring running–but it is definitely the best way to get in shape and I always feel like a champion whenever I finish a grueling run. It’s a love/hate relationship. Good luck in your training! I’m excited to see your progress!

I was too lazy to log in, lol, but welcome to our merry band of Gymiters. (I’m trying to get LiLu to trademark that.) And good luck on getting ready for your run. I’ve never been big on running. Too much boob weight not enough duct tape to hold them in place.

I agree with Christina on this one. Running is my nemesis but I am secretly jealous of “runners.” Good luck and welcome. I hope you get as much love as this community as I do.
