I LOVE milk. I mean…I have to have at LEAST a glass a day and I throw a fit* if the baristas at Starbucks don’t out in whole milk in my drink because it just TASTES wrong. I grew up in Turkey, where the milk is so thick and creamy and delicious that it’s been impossible for me to drink anything BUT whole milk my entire life.
Last night, however, when the Boy and I were grocery shopping, I reached for the 2% carton.
“Maybe you should get a smaller size, just until you’re sure you like it.”
“Yeah.”
So I went to the smaller sizes and then without touching them, I went back and got the gallon of 2% milk.
“If I’m going to do this, I can’t baby myself. I WILL get used to 2% milk and I’ll like it.”
And this morning?
I asked for 2% milk in my (ONCE A WEEK ONLY) Starbucks.
You know what?
It didn’t taste half-bad.
Yes, changing from whole milk to 2% nearly made me cry but damn it, I did it.

*By ‘throw a fit’, I mean, I politely ask them to please remake the drink because it tastes AWFUL.

Last year, I went the opposite direction. I’ve drank skim milk my whole life and never really liked it. Made the change to organic 1%, and OH MY GOD, do I love my daily glass of milk now!!
But I completely agree with you—anything but whole or 2% milk in coffee drinks just doesn’t taste right.

I’m glad you switched to 2% and not fat free. Sometimes I think people fear the fat wayyy too much! And you’re right, it is a big change but good for you for seeing that it’s a place in your life that could really make a difference!

Way to go! Though I can’t believe you drink whole milk – or even 2%. I’ve drank only skim my whole life, & everything else tastes like a milkshake now, but in a bad way. Anyway, GOOD JOB.

I’ve heard so many people say that whole milk is better than 2% because of the chemical process. I don’t drink a lot of milk, but when I do, I stick to whole organic milk.
Anyway, good luck getting used to the 2%!

I was raised on skim milk my whole life and eventually my parents bought 1%. Me? I LOVE 2% and it was probably my biggest indulgence when I moved out on my own. yum! And I dont think the calories are all that different from 2% to 1%. I find it hard to drink even 1% now though. :-/

I swear by 2% milk! Skim is nasty and watery and 1% is acceptable if it’s a life or death situation. I’ve never actually had whole milk (We call it Homogenized in Canada eh!).

I don’t mine whole milk, but my husband will only drink 2%. In all honesty, that’s fine by me because I don’t drink milk very often anyway (growing up, I was lactose intolerant, but have since grown out of it). There’s definitely a difference between the two, but it’s not too big of a difference! Good job for going for the 2%!
